Boris Souvarine: Black October – Ten Years of the Russian Revolution (1927)

Boris Souvarine (1895-1984) was a co-founder of the French Communist Party and activist in the Communist International. He broke from the party in 1924 and became a critical supporter and part of the anti-Stalinist opposition within the international communist movement, observing and analysing the degeneration of the Bolsheviks from a revolutionary force to the political organisation of a new ruling stratum in Soviet Russia. This is his article about 10 years of the revolution for the first time in English.

In September 1867, 150 years ago, a book appeared in Hamburg with a first edition print run of 1,000 copies. This book was called Das Kapital, by Karl Marx. In the book, Marx sets out to analyse the capitalist reality in the form of a ‘critique of political economy’. He begins with an analysis of the commodity, describing its use and exchange value, and laying out, both economically and historically, how capital is produced, extracted and accumulated.

Datacide is a magazine that covers experimental electronic music, from the avantgarde to hard dance music, its intersections with radical politics and counterculture, in-depth political and historical analysis and critique as well as experimental fiction, poetry and visual works.
